Focus & Screen Time
Clarymind is helpful if you want to:
- Increase productivity
- Reclaim your attention for side projects, second income, or hobbies
- Stop scrolling before bed and revenge bedtime procrastination
- Reduce social media anxiety
- Reset your relationship with the internet and your phone
- Cherish quality time with family and friends
- Break free from phone addiction
Clarymind can help you achieve these goals, leading you toward a more productive, focused, healthier, and more fulfilling life.
In life, our time and attention are limited and irretrievable.
How we use our time and attention determines how we spend our lives. Our ability to develop talents and potential, achieve goals, maintain quality relationships with partners and family, and accumulate wealth are all fundamentally influenced by these two finite resources.
Clarymind is here to help users make better long-term decisions more naturally and painlessly. Through a series of choices, we can gradually gain control over our lives.
At Clarymind, we believe in two principles:
1. You're not lacking discipline; you might just be drained.
It's worth spending willpower on achieving goals and realizing life aspirations. But constantly using it to resist temptations seems wasteful.
Just as the best way to avoid junk food is not keeping snacks at home, Clarymind can provide better methods to protect your precious willpower.
2. You don't need more knowledge; you just need a good tool that integrates into your life, helping you take action starting today.
We all know focus is important, but changing years of habits isn't easy.
Clarymind provides modern people with tools to maintain focus and balance without relying on willpower. This means:
- A simple system to break muscle memory and stop unconsciously opening social media
- A simple system that reminds you of better choices every time you open social media
- A simple system that automatically locks apps when time's up, even if you slip back into scrolling, helping you return to your focused state
- A simple system to break the cycle of anxiety and scrolling
- A simple system that gives you more time for learning, pursuing hobbies, and spending quality time with important people
Change is a process. In the first month, you might not know what to do with the extra time. But gradually, you'll rediscover old hobbies and dreams - those things you once wanted to do or started but put aside, thinking you had no time or energy after work.
You'll slowly realize that these fragments of time can accumulate into meaningful changes in your life. Maybe it's reading 3 more books per month, exercising 3 more hours per week, starting to create and write, or watching Netflix with your partner without either of you reaching for your phone.
We won't remember the social media arguments we saw on some day in 2025, but we will remember the new stories we created for ourselves in 2025.
We've all experienced how social media can disrupt focus, trigger anxiety, and eat up hours of our time.
But it also brings information and connections, helping us stay in touch with friends, learn new things, and even create opportunities.
Social media isn't some evil villain - like most things in life, it's the excess that becomes harmful.
From an information consumption perspective, too much social media and news can gradually chip away at our ability to think deeply, making us more prone to external influences.
From a mental health perspective, constant exposure to arguments and conflicts can leave us anxious or angry, as if every crisis is our own. Modern social media design can also easily lead to excessive social comparison. As they say, the media’s job is to make other people’s problems your problems.
Clarymind helps put phones and social media back in its place — so it serves us as tools, not the other way around.
Do you feel this way too? No matter how much you rest, you still feel exhausted and anxious?
When we're anxious, we often unconsciously reach for our phones, seeking dopamine hits for relief.
But excessive social media use triggers more anxiety, creating a cycle:
"Anxiety → Scrolling → Deepening anxiety"
Instead of getting real rest, we end up feeling even more drained.
We break the cycle at its root:
- Blocking social media: Pause the urge to scroll and reflect - am I doing this out of anxiety?
- Breathing exercises: Calm your nervous system and ease anxiety.
Procrastination is often not a time management issue, but an emotional one. Clarymind helps you establish a new cycle:
"Anxiety → Break tasks into smaller pieces → Celebrate small wins (!) → Get things done → Less anxiety."
We can gradually return to life as it was before excessive phone use. You might suddenly realize: so this is what it feels like to be calm and productive again.
The iPhone’s built-in Screen Time has a few major issues:
- The iPhone’s built-in setting only locks social apps after you hit your daily limit.
In other words, if you rely on the iPhone’s built-in Screen Time feature, you can still open social apps freely until you’ve reached that limit.
This makes it hard to build a new habit of not opening apps impulsively or pausing to think before using them. The muscle memory of “opening social apps without thinking” stays intact.
Clarymind, on the other hand, locks social apps by default and only unlocks them when needed. Before unlocking, it asks you to take a deep breath and reflect on your reason for opening the app. This design helps ensure every use is intentional use.
- The iPhone’s built-in Screen Time allows one-tap overrides.
Even if the built-in Screen Time shows a blocking screen, you can easily tap “Ignore Limit for Today” and bypass it completely.
This makes the restriction very weak — almost meaningless. Clarymind doesn’t allow one-tap unlocking. It also offers a Strict Mode, where once you’ve reached your daily limit, you simply can’t reopen the app.
- Clarymind offers more flexible settings.
With Clarymind, you can set Deep Focus time and Break time — during work or sleep hours, apps stay locked, but during breaks you can relax and catch up with friends. This helps you balance screen time without sacrificing your downtime or social connections.
Clarymind's core design is different from other focus and blocking apps. Here's what makes Clarymind stand out:
- Integration of Self-Compassion and Mindfulness
The most important element in changing habits is a person's willingness to change. At Clarymind, we deeply understand this, and we know that physical blocks can always be circumvented (people can delete the app, switch to using computers, or even buy a new phone).
So instead of forcefully blocking usage, we aim to work on a psychological level, gradually helping users explore their reasons for use and address the root causes.
This core philosophy is the biggest difference between Clarymind and other apps, and it influences our entire design approach.
- Gentle Reminders Instead of Physical Blocking
Clarymind's UI and flow design doesn't attempt to lock down your phone. Instead, we use a gentle and empathetic approach to remind users to think about and understand themselves.
- Minimal Gamification to Avoid Distraction
The purpose of Clarymind's gamification is to prevent unlocking from becoming a new habit.
In Clarymind, we encourage good habits through fun character dialogues and basic gamification elements. We're very careful about the extent of gamification to prevent it from becoming another source of distraction.
Clarymind cannot detect which apps are installed on your phone or know which apps you've chosen to lock. You can use it with complete peace of mind.
Our privacy-focused design works by first encrypting app information into an irreversible hash code, which is then used by the system to lock apps. Throughout this process, we never access any actual app data on your phone.
That's why after successfully unlocking an app, you need to open it yourself - Clarymind only sees a hash code and doesn't know which app you intend to use.
In addition to helping you lock distracting apps, Clarymind includes the following features:
- Redirect to other apps: When opening a distracting app, automatically open another pre-set app instead.
For example, if you want to replace social media with reading, you can set it to automatically redirect to your e-book app when you try to open Instagram.
This helps replace old habits with better ones naturally, rather than just forcing ourselves to use social media less.
- Character reminders: When opening a distracting app, an AI companion will pop up to ask about your reasons for use.
The AI characters utilize mindfulness and psychology to help you better understand your usage motivations. (Note: one of the characters, Grumpi the cat, will constantly sass you. He's cute too.)
-
Strict mode: One of the AI characters, "The King," represents strict mode. Once you reach your daily limit, you won't be able to open the app anymore.
-
Breathing unlock: Before unlocking an app, take a 10-second deep breath.
This extends the opening time to reflect on your usage motivation while also reducing anxiety through breathing, breaking the "anxiety ⇆ scrolling" cycle.
