In certain situations, Clarymind may not be the best choice:
- If you're looking for strong physical blocking or extremely complex strict modes. Since Clarymind's design philosophy focuses on using psychology and mindful reflection to reduce phone usage from within, it's not suitable for users who need physical blocking features.
- If you're a parent wanting to control your child's phone usage. Since Clarymind doesn't have parent-child device linking functionality, it's not applicable for this purpose.
When you encounter this issue, please make sure you have downloaded the latest version of Clarymind. Each update improves performance and reduces the chances of crashes.
Common reasons for Clarymind crashes include:
There's a bug in the app.
A bug may be triggered when certain actions are performed on specific iOS versions.
In this case, please let us know via email (contact@clarymind.com) or Discord so our team can try to reproduce the issue and implement a fix or troubleshoot the problem.
To help us diagnose the issue, please provide:
- Actions you were taking before the problem occurred
- Your iOS version number
- Your phone model
- Whether Family Sharing is enabled on your phone ("Settings" > "Your Name" > "Family Sharing")
Insufficient phone storage
Go to "Settings" > "General" > "iPhone Storage" to check your storage.
Based on our testing, if your phone's storage is below 8GB, crashes may occur due to insufficient space. When storage drops below 3GB, most apps will become sluggish and prone to crashing.
We recommend maintaining at least 8-10 GB of free storage space for smooth operation of Clarymind and other apps.
Low memory (RAM)
Newer iPhone models generally have more RAM, reducing the likelihood of crashes due to low memory.
Clarymind includes various self-care features such as Focus (screen time management), meditation, breathing exercises, sleep sounds, and affirmations. We've received requests from users asking if they could subscribe to just a few features they need at a lower price.
After internal discussions, we've decided not to offer customizable subscription plans at this stage. Here are our main considerations:
Clarymind's long-term vision is to be a comprehensive personal wellness app, and we plan to continuously expand our features. Currently, we're releasing new feature modules every month.
- With multiple subscription tiers, we'd need to reconsider the placement of each new feature module.
- Additional plan options could make it more difficult for new users to understand Clarymind.
- Existing subscribers might want to upgrade or downgrade their plans, but Apple's subscription management system isn't fully under our control, which could lead to user complications.
We'll continue to discuss this topic, and perhaps in the future, we'll find better ways to meet more users' needs.
Focus & Screen Time
Yes! Clarymind can lock social media websites whether you're using Safari or Chrome.
Setup Steps
Follow these steps to set it up:
- On the Focus page, tap the app you want to configure
- Enter the app's website URL in the "Linked Websites" field
How to Unlock
The settings above will link the website to its app. When you unlock the social media app, its linked website will be unlocked simultaneously.
URL Settings
After entering a URL, we'll automatically lock matching URLs as well. For example: when you enter "facebook.com", both "facebook.com" and "www.facebook.com" will appear automatically. This saves you from having to enter multiple variations.
Additionally, due to iOS limitations, setting up one website will lock all of its subdomains. For instance,
youtube.com
will block bothm.youtube.com
(mobile website) andstudio.youtube.com
(creator studio). If you only want to block video watching but not the creator studio features, just set up
m.youtube.com
.Browser Differences
- Chrome: All social media websites need to be set up separately through URL settings.
- Safari: In most cases, when you lock a social media app through Clarymind, its website version will be locked automatically.
Among common social media platforms, only the following websites need manual URL setup:
- TikTok: tiktok.com
- Threads: threads.net
- X (Twitter): x.com
In Clarymind, you can set up automatic redirects to other apps when you open specific distracting apps.
For example, when you open Instagram, you can redirect to the Kindle app, replacing scrolling with reading.
Here's how to set it up:
- On the Focus page, tap the app you want to configure to enter its settings
- In the "Alternative App" section, choose the app you want to redirect to
Currently supported alternative apps include:
- Education: Duolingo, Coursera, Udemy...
- Health & Fitness: Calm, Headspace, Finch...
- Podcast: Apple Podcast, Spotify, Youtube Music, Pandora, Snipd...
- Productivity: Notion, Obsidian, Evernote, Heptabase, Apple Notes, Apple Reminders, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Notion Calendar, TimeTree...
- Reading: Kindle, Substack, Readwise Reader, Medium, Apple Books, Goodreads, Libby, Pocket, Instapaper, Wikipedia...
When selecting apps to lock, you'll see a list of apps installed on your iPhone. This app selection form is controlled and managed by iOS, and we cannot modify it.
If you encounter crashes, white screens, or layout issues, these are due to iOS bugs that we cannot fix. These issues were reported to Apple multiple times over the past few years, but according to developer forums, Apple currently has no plans to address them.
We've implemented some preventive measures. If you encounter issues, here's what you can do:
-
If something goes wrong, tap the refresh button at the top or close and reopen the page to restore normal function.
-
We've found that frequently switching between categories or using the search function may cause the menu to crash.
To minimize the chance of crashes, we recommend avoiding the search function and not expanding too many categories at once.
Here's a list of commonly used apps organized by category to help you quickly find what you want to set up:
- Social: Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X (Twitter), Discord
- Entertainment: TikTok
- Information & Reading: Reddit

Clarymind cannot detect which apps are installed on your phone or know which apps you've chosen to lock. You can use it with complete peace of mind.
Our privacy-focused design works by first encrypting app information into an irreversible hash code, which is then used by the system to lock apps. Throughout this process, we never access any actual app data on your phone.
That's why after successfully unlocking an app, you need to open it yourself - Clarymind only sees a hash code and doesn't know which app you intend to use.
This issue happens when using Clarymind with other screen time tools simultaneously, including the iPhone built-in ”Screen Time / App Limits.“
Both tools rely on the same system timer, and conflicts can arise when multiple apps set the timer simultaneously, leading to errors or unexpected unlocks.
To prevent this problem, use only one tool to set restrictions for each app. For instance, you can restrict Instagram with Clarymind and other apps with the iPhone's Screen Time, but avoid using both tools for the same app.
If the app still doesn't lock as expected, please let us know via email (contact@clarymind.com) or our Discord.
This occurs when you set Clarymind to lock apps but later revoke its "Screen Time Permission." Without this permission, Clarymind cannot lock the apps.
To resolve this, you can either:
- Grant "Screen Time Permission" to Clarymind to enable app locking; or
- Delete your previous app lock settings. This way, no apps will be locked, and the "Grant Screen Time Permission" prompt will stop appearing.
When your phone's storage is low, you may see the system's default "gray hourglass" page instead of Clarymind's unlock screen. Here's how to troubleshoot:
-
In most cases, tapping "OK" will trigger a notification that allows you to continue with the unlock process.
-
If tapping "OK" doesn't successfully unlock the app
Check if you're using Clarymind alongside other iPhone screen time management tools, including other screen time apps and iPhone's built-in "App Limits" feature.
According to Apple's developer forum, this issue can occur when multiple tools are used simultaneously.
On iPhone, app locking mechanisms rely on the system's built-in timer for countdown. When multiple apps send locking and unlocking requests to iPhone's timer simultaneously, it may cause timer malfunctions.
To avoid this issue, please use only one screen time management tool at a time.
- If you're not using any screen time management tools other than Clarymind, please contact us via Discord or email (contact@clarymind.com). Our team will help investigate and resolve your issue.

On the "Focus" page, you can see which apps are currently unlocked and their remaining usage time in real-time.
If you find that you no longer want to use an app, you can click the square button ⬛︎ on the right to lock it early.
The dashboard records your total time spent using unlocked apps in Clarymind today.
You can set a daily usage time goal. If you haven't exceeded it, the dashboard will show in green; if you exceed the goal, the dashboard will show in yellow.
After unlocking an app, if you no longer want to continue using it, even if there's still time remaining, you can click the square button ⬛︎ to the right of the countdown timer to lock the app early. This way, you won't continue accumulating usage time on the dashboard, making it easier to achieve your goals.
Yes! By default, Clarymind will show a notification one minute before locking any app.
If you don't need this reminder, you can turn it off in the app settings by tapping the app from the "Focus" page.
When unlocking, you may enter a reason to Clarymind's AI companions. You can view your unlock history in "Account > Unlock Records".
The built-in "Screen Time" feature on iPhone has two main limitations:
- Social apps only get locked after you reach your daily limit; before that, you can open them freely.
This means users can't develop new habits of "not opening apps" and "thinking before opening." They maintain the muscle memory and habit of unconsciously opening social apps.
Clarymind, on the other hand, locks social apps by default and only unlocks them when needed. Through breathing exercises and answering why you want to use the app, it extends the opening process and encourages reflection. This design ensures each use is "conscious usage."
- iPhone's built-in Screen Time has a "one-tap unlock" mechanism. So even when blocked, you can easily choose "Ignore Limit for Today"
This makes the blocking too weak and essentially ineffective. In contrast, Clarymind doesn't allow one-tap unlocks and offers a "King's Strict Mode" where once you exceed your daily usage limit, you can't open the apps again.
Additionally, we recommend not using iPhone's Screen Time and Clarymind simultaneously. Both locking mechanisms use iPhone's built-in timer tools. Having multiple apps sending lock/unlock commands to iPhone may cause timing errors.
In addition to helping you lock distracting apps, Clarymind includes the following features:
- Redirect to other apps: When opening a distracting app, automatically open another pre-set app instead.
For example, if you want to replace social media with reading, you can set it to automatically redirect to your e-book app when you try to open Instagram.
This helps replace old habits with better ones naturally, rather than just forcing ourselves to use social media less.
- Character reminders: When opening a distracting app, an AI companion will pop up to ask about your reasons for use.
The AI characters utilize mindfulness and psychology to help you better understand your usage motivations. (Note: one of the characters, Grumpi the cat, will constantly sass you. He's cute too.)
-
Strict mode: One of the AI characters, "The King," represents strict mode. Once you reach your daily limit, you won't be able to open the app anymore.
-
Breathing unlock: Before unlocking an app, take a 10-second deep breath.
This extends the opening time to reflect on your usage motivation while also reducing anxiety through breathing, breaking the "anxiety ⇆ scrolling" cycle.
For more details, you can refer to this article, which includes explanations of all Clarymind's advanced features.
If you encounter any issues during setup, you can contact us directly through Discord or email contact@clarymind.com.
Meditation & Breathwork
The meditation timer in Clarymind allows you to customize your meditation sessions with specific durations, background music, and starting and ending sounds.
Additionally, you can turn on ”Guided Meditation“ feature to enjoy a personalized session generated based on your chosen duration, voice and one of the three techniques: breath / body scan / visualization.
The AI-guided meditation offers a personalized experience by generating a guided meditation script based on your chosen duration, voice, and one of three techniques (breath, body scan, visualization).
You can activate the ”Guided Meditation“ feature in the meditation settings to try it out.
Clarymind offers four breath work techniques: Better Sleep (4-7-8), Calm (4-6), Energize (4-2), and Box Breathing.
